Quote of the Day

I seek out places where it can

happen more readily, such as

deserts or mountains or

solitary areas, or by myself

with a seashell, and while I’m

there get into states of mind

where I’m more open than usual.

I’m waiting, I’m listening. I go

to those places and get myself

ready through meditation. Through being quiet and willing to wait,

I can begin to see the inner man and the essence of the subject  in

front of me… Watching the way the current moves a blade of grass -

sometimes I’ve seen that happen and it has just turned me inside out.

Yosemite Classics by William Neil

This is how William Neil, of The Ansel Adams Gallery at Yosemite National Park,

describes his work:

“The reason I photograph is to experience the beauty of nature, of wild places. I explore the essential elements of rock and tree, of cloud and rushing water to discover the magic and mystery of the landscape. It is the spirit of the land I seek to reveal in my images.

Photography is a quiet, meditative activity for me. I enjoy isolating the details of a scene. By creating photographs where the content or orientation is not obvious, an intimate and enigmatic feeling can come through. I enjoy making an image that asks a question, one that intrigues and arouses curiosity in the viewer.”

The marvels of daily life

are exciting; no movie

Tone-Mapped Street

I love the intimacy of this

tone-mapped image –

the blue shutters, the tall

façade, the cars taking

their place in the narrow

street. I love the pots,

the plants, the woman halting her steps not 10 feet beyond

the nearest bench; and, most of all, I love the word “selfish”

scribbled backwards on the foreground pole. Is it selfish

to stare, to admire this compact, beautiful street???

Similar Colors

Have you ever wanted to

quickly sort through a

Flickr Photo collection using “similar colors” as

your query??? Now you can… Idee extracts the

colors from 10 million of the most “interesting”

Creative Commons images on Flickr, and

by utilizing their visual similarity technology

you can navigate the collection by color.

This process is also available with Alamy Stock

Photography.

Quote of the Day

To take a photograph is

to participate in another

person’s (or thing’s)

mortality, vulnerability,

mutability. Precisely by

slicing out this moment

and freezing it, all

photographs testify to

time’s relentless melt.
