Cartier-Bresson’s decisive moment comes when ‘the picture in one glance says everything and says it in terms of design, rhythm, pattern – every element in strong relationship with all the others… Photography is a matter of visual geometry’. I recall him telling me ‘Order and organization are the educated heart of a picture.’

To this very amateur photographer, it appears more and more to me that some have an “eye” for the organization required for good photography; others do not. Can that be learned? Perhaps…not sure.

I believe it can be learned to a great extent by surrounding yourself with the best photos possible in terms of composition and then asking yourself what
in each particular photo that you like works for you. In poetry, that learning process is called deconstruction.
If you take the time to both study and shoot, you will steadily grow in knowledge and experience as a photographer, and only then will you find your personal photographic voice and style.
On this site, I attempt to show photos that are better than most when it comes to composition, and round that out with helpful tips in some of the other posts. I encourage you to return to the site and dig through those
posts at your convenience.
Thanks for stopping by dig-n-dash.
