                                                     (for Grace)

      How beautiful the tinkling bells

      that weave harmonic hymns

      into the best and worst of us –

      ring God is in this spacious air,

      ring ebb and flow of saffron

      flood, ring ease into all bone and

      blood till we are silently repaired –

      beyond the distance of our cares;

      for music met, so blindly felt,

      restores the cheerfulness of self

      that, to a man, we thought we’d

      lost –  at high a price, so high a cost.

      This stillest silence greatly bound

      by threaded silver’s golden sound.
